Before entering the United States Army I always thought that there was no discrimination in the army, no matter of Race, Creed, or Color. But after I'd been in a few months I've found out differently. In this camp and others negro & [and] white soldiers have different PX's [Post Exchange] to go to, also they have different sections of army theaters in which to sit. I don't call that democracy at all. But all the same time we are suppose to be fighting for Democracy, and fighting for freedom of speech, freedom from want and etc. I've been to one camp where soldiers of our battalion were not allowed to walk the camp streets outside the battalion area because of probable trouble with white soldiers who seemed to pick at us.
