S125: General Cross Section Survey

a. Morale: Series of questions which had been standardized by Research Branch Headquarters in Washington were asked on men's attitudes toward officers, the Army, their own jobs, their opportunities for promotion, and pass and furlough policies. This information was obtained for the Commanding General, USAFICPA, and for Research Branch Headquarters in Washington which desired it for comparison with data being obtained in other overseas theaters and in the United States.

b. Demobilization and Compulsory Military Training: Research Branch Headquarters in Washington requested that standard questions on these areas be included in order to supply data to the Special Planning Division, WDSS, on soldiers' opinions of which men should be released from the Army first and on soldiers' reactions to postwar compulsory military training. The same questions were asked simultaneously in other overseas theaters and in the United States.

c. PX: At the request of the Theater Exchange Officer, the men were asked a series of questions on the convenience of and adequacy of supplies in Field and Post Exchanges.
